Amazon has first attempted its drone delivery, about a year ago in the UK and it is betting big on automated drones. Amazon air prime is a delivery service to its Prime customers by fully automated drones. It was designed to safely deliver the packages up to five pounds within 30 minutes using the small unmanned aerial vehicles.
Amazon is building and testing these drones at their International Development centers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Israel. Presently, Amazon is running own customer trials in the UK. Through this tests, Amazon is collecting data to focusing on improving the safety and reliability of flying systems and operations. Other Countries may soon follow by similar trails shortly.
These delivery drones use 200 feet to 400 feet in segregated air space i.e. below 500 feet for the safest and efficient operations. Most of the Airspace (non-segregated civil airspace) above 500 feet is where most civil and military aviation activities occur. So it is not safer to operate these drones above 500 feet limit.
Safety is our top priority. Our vehicles will be built with multiple redundancies, as well as sophisticated “sense and avoid” technology. We will deploy these, when and where we have the regulatory support needed to realize our vision safely. We’re excited about this technology and one day using it to deliver packages to customers around the world in 30 minutes or less – AMAZON.
Currently, prime drones are permitted to operate under daylight and in typical weather conditions of little wind and good visibility. They are still not operational in rain, snow or icy weather conditions. Amazon stated that it will expand into these limitations in future. Also, Amazon is not yet committed with any particular shape of how these Drones Look. They were testing with different designs and delivery mechanisms to discover the best way to deliver under various operating conditions. So the looks and characteristics of vehicles may differ from above picture and will evolve with the time.
It may seem like science fiction, especially for countries like India, but it is going to be real. Drones are lately developing for various transportation applications. One day, we will see Prime Air vehicles as usual as mail trucks on the road. So are you excited about seeing these automates drones around your living place? It will happen but hold on the excitement.
